Supporters Online Community

Our member-run social media team — independent of the party, shaped by the people who run it.

What it’s for

Members voted to welcome an independent supporters community online — Facebook, Instagram, X. It shares what supporters in Wentworth are doing, in our own voices, from our own accounts.

It runs separately from the party — no logos, no official titles, exactly as head office asks. Which also means the members who run it get to shape it.

Numbers that should make you curious

  • In 2025, minor parties and independents out-polled the Coalition nationally on first preferences — 33.6% to 31.8%. The conversation has already moved; it needs voices.
  • Preferences are decided by voters, not by party deals — how-to-vote cards are only suggestions. Which is exactly why authentic local voices carry more weight than official advertising.

Every figure here is from the AEC, the NSW Electoral Commission, or published election analysis.

What the work actually is

  • Set the group up and choose how it runs — the coordinators decide, within the code of conduct
  • Post what supporters are up to; share official party material from your personal account
  • Keep the tone civil and the room welcoming — good moderation is the whole game
  • Make the occasional clip or graphic if that is your thing

How much time, honestly?

Fits in the gaps of a normal week — most of this happens on a phone. If you are one of our younger members, or you simply live on these platforms anyway, an hour here counts double.

Most of these roles take an hour or two a week. When an election is called it becomes all hands on deck — and you will want to have been part of it by then.

Would I be any good at it?

If you already use these platforms, you are already qualified. There is no wrong way to start — post one thing and take it from there.

  • You know your way around Facebook, Instagram or X
  • You can disagree agreeably, and help others do the same
  • You want a creative job rather than an administrative one

Not sure? Have a go. Ease in — take a small job, see how it fits, step up or step back as life allows. Registering interest is a conversation, not a contract.
